This paper examines the absence of trauma that today characterizes the West in the face of the persistence of war and its mediation. Following the return of war to Europe and the outbreak of the Israel–Palestine conflict, violence has asserted itself as an epochal event; yet, for large segments of Western publics, its perception appears attenuated, filtered, almost neutralized. Although pervasive and enduring, the wartime condition has progressively translated into a rarefied horizon: not lived experience, but image, media flow, a backdrop of continuous news coverage. It is within this gap between the traumatic reality of the event and its weakened reception that the analysis is situated, seeking to understand how war, despite its presence, fails to become shared trauma, memory, and narrative. Particular attention is devoted to the images emerging from the Israel–Palestine conflict and to the modalities of their circulation and reception, interrogating the role of the image in shaping – or neutralizing – the public experience of the conflict.

Abstract
Particular attention is devoted to the images emerging from the Israel–Palestine conflict and to the modalities of their circulation and reception, interrogating the role of the image in shaping – or neutralizing – the public experience of the conflict.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
