The Catalan issue continues and the teaching of catalan has been the subject of another clash between Barcelona and Madrid. A recent ruling by the Tribunal Supremo confirmed a pronouncement by the Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Cataluña, according to which in Catalan schools at least 25% of classes must be taught in castilian (or so-called spanish). The ruling triggered a strong reaction from the politics and catalan associations. The affair led to the approval of a new regulatory framework by the Generalitat, but it has already been brought before the Tribunal Constitucional.
