Sustainability is a very overused topic nowadays: however, it is undeniable how it is an essential concept to allow a correct green transition in the awareness of having a correct approach to managing the planet, a management that is able to account for all relevant issues in a holistic way. Starting from the assumption of considering environmental, economic and social issues at the same time, it must be immediately clarified that the Food sector is one of the most impactful both in terms of direct impacts -that in a life cycle perspective it is able to cause- but also in indirect terms as it is intimately connected to the lifestyles and diets of each of us: all this considered, this sector must permeate with innovative strategies in terms of sustainability that allow it to escape from the negative spiral and be able to represent a point of reference for other sectors. Solutions such as more efficient cultivation techniques, water saving strategies, enhancement of less impactful products, development of agroecological infrastructures, green packaging, sustainability labelling, sustainable supply chains are essential to allow a radical change in a sector that is strongly in need of change.

Abstract
