Abstract

The promotion of a rapid global economic recovery is currently a priority for the international community as a whole. This article seeks to analyse the impact of the activities of the Bretton Woods International Financial Institutions (IFIs) – the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank – on the economic and social conditions of the countries in which they operate, particularly in the least developed countries (LDCs). More specifically, the analysis focuses on the consequences that these activities may have in terms of gender equality. Gender equality is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG No. 5), and can represent the foundation of a sustainable, prosperous, and pacific world.
