We consider the problem of accurate tracing of long magneticfield lines in tokamaks for the determination of scrape offlayers and plasma boundaries. The problem of the accuracy ofthe numerical integration is tackled. Criteria for the specificproblem are introduced and discussed. Standard ODE(Ordinary Differential Equation) integrators are consideredand compared with a volume preserving algorithm, withreference to prescribed accuracy requirements.
