Drawing on an ethnographic case study of Gabriele Coassin, a former professional who maintains U-Matic equipment and contributes to preservation initiatives, the chapter illustrates how actors operating outside formal institutions can develop care practices, networks and ecosystems that are vital to the ongoing survival of obsolete technologies.
