This chapter explores the relationship between cultural studies and dialectology from a global and Hispanic perspective. It presents and illustrates the link between the process of construction of social meaning –that is, culture– and the language practices that convey the construction and expression of identities and power relations. Some examples of application and integration are then proposed, with the aim of showing how social dialectology can contribute to the understanding of cultural phenomena by considering intra- and interlinguistic variation. The chapter closes with some questions for further reflection.

Abstract
This chapter explores the relationship between cultural studies and dialectology from a global and Hispanic perspective. It presents and illustrates the link between the process of construction of social meaning –that is, culture– and the language practices that convey the construction and expression of identities and power relations. Some examples of application and integration are then proposed, with the aim of showing how social dialectology can contribute to the understanding of cultural phenomena by considering intra- and interlinguistic variation. The chapter closes with some questions for further reflection.File in questo prodotto:
