The paper analyses how the infrastructural development of North-African ports will affect the international trade patterns on Europe-Far East routes. For this purpose, the main socio-economic trends of the region will be discussed altogether with the future implementation of the major infrastructural projects. Afterwards the paper draws the possible impact the emerging hub ports could have on the carriers‟ deep-sea services. This is utterly important due to the possible effects on the European port region in terms of traffic deviation and shipping services re-scheduling. Moreover, the future development of this economic region could generate additional cargo traffic volumes and the progressive growth of the North-African port range, enhancing the Mediterranean competitiveness as a whole.
